Ocala National Forest January 2012

I'm heading for Alexander Springs NF campground in the Ocala National Forest in Florida in January for a few nights. It will be a shakedown trip to make sure our travel trailer and tow vehicle are ready for the "Dream Trip" which begins in the Spring. We haven't had the camper out since last July when we went down to Titusville, Florida to watch the final Space Shuttle launch. Camping at Alexander Springs is what is know as "dry" camping meaning there is no water or electric at your campsite. This is what I want since it will allow me to use the internal systems in the trailer. I also have 2 large deep cycle batteries and a 1500 watt inverter that allows me to have 120VAC power so I can run things like a microwave, TV, fans, charge laptop and cell phone batteries, etc. In the past I have found this system can supply our needs for up to 3 days without charging the batteries. I've camped at Alexander Springs many times in the past and I enjoy the campground and the surrounding forest, many of the sites offer good privacy and it is typical a quiet and very clean campground. The surrounding area is good for wildlife viewing as well. Canoeing on the creek created by the Springs is great and a good way to see fish in the crystal clear water as well as turtles and many kinds of birds. Canoes are available for rent at the campground. Just remember you'll have to paddle back upstream against the current to get back to the launch point. Here are a few photos from past trips
